The work to be presented at the conference must contain a substantial amount of new or innovative research in microscopy or microanalysis.
How to Apply for International and ACMM Meeting Bursaries
Applications must be sent to the secretary. Travel to conferences to be held in the following 12 months will be considered at this time. Note that it is a condition of application that students must have been financial student members of the society for at least one year.

In addition to the above awards, all student oral presentations at ACMM-22 will be considered for one of THE JOHN FARRANT PRIZES, details of which are also given below.
The 10th David Goodchild Award will be presented at ACMM-22 in Perth. The Award is open to microscopists working in Biology and will provide $2,000 towards the recipient presenting a paper at an microscopy meeting of international standing or visiting overseas laboratories.
Candidates are invited to submit applications, or may be nominated. Preference will be given to early to mid-career researchers, particularly applicants who have not previously travelled overseas to attend a conference. Past applicants are encouraged to reapply. The Awards Committee will assess applications for awards and will make recommendations to the Executive Committee.
The application should contain:
a curriculum vitae
the name of at least two referees
copies of recent papers or pre-prints
a brief statement of how the award will be used.
Applications are invited for the 2012 award of the John Sanders Medal of the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society Inc.
The medal was established to promote excellence in developing or applying electron microscope techniques in the physical or chemical sciences, and to perpetuate the name of John Sanders. This is the tenth award of the medal, the first having been awarded at ACEM-11 in 1990.
The award is open to persons resident in Australia for at least five of the past seven years preceding the date on which the entries close.
The medal is to be awarded for excellence in developing or applying electron microscope techniques, with particular attention to problems of practical importance in the physical and chemical sciences. The award shall be given for original research making, in the opinion of the selection committee, the most important contribution to the subject as defined above, and recorded in papers of international standing published during the previous five years, and supported, where appropriate, by unpublished papers ready for publication.
Applications, which can come either from or on behalf of a nominee, should include the names of two referees, and a short statement of the research for which the nomination is made. The Awards Committee will assess applications for awards and will make recommendations to the Executive Committee.
Applications are called for the 2012 FEI Company Cowley-Moodie Award of the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society Inc., proudly sponsored by nanoTechnology Systems. The FEI Company Cowley-Moodie Award is open to electron microscopists working in the physical sciences, and will provide an international air ticket for the recipient to present a paper at an international scientific conference and/or to visit overseas scientific laboratories within twelve months of the award.
The award will be judged on the basis of a piece of original research in the physical sciences involving electron microscopy, completed since April 2008. The work must have been carried out in Australia.
Candidates are invited to submit applications, or be nominated. Preference will be given to early to mid-career researchers. Past applicants are encouraged to reapply.
The application should contain:
a curriculum vitae

a brief statement of how the award will be used.
All eligible applicants will receive a certificate and a small reward.
The Trans-Tasman Bursary is sponsored by ProSciTech and is intended to further cooperation between microscopists in Australia and New Zealand. It is awarded to an Australian and a New Zealand Resident on alternate occasions. This time it will be awarded to an Australian microscopist attending ACMM-22 so as to enable that microscopist to attend the New Zealand Microscopy Conference.
The bursary covers all expenses for economy air travel to the next New Zealand Microscopy Conference, registration fees, and A$500 for living expenses.
The bursary will be awarded to an early career researcher who is an Australian resident.
The work must be presented as an oral presentation at ACMM-22.
The research must have a crucial component of any form of microscopy and/or electron beam analysis. Preference will be given for significant research which is judged to have some enduring value for people and/or the environment.
All candidates will be asked to give an oral summary of the significance of their work at ACMM-22. The presentations will be judged and the successful candidate announced at the conference. All candidates must provide copies of any relevant publications in refereed journals during the past 5 years in addition to a copy of their curriculum vitae. They must also provide the contact details of two professional referees and indicate compliance with the other requirements as above. This is in addition to the normal requirements of the conference.
The name of the runner-up will be held in confidence and that person would take the award if the winner is unable to claim the prize.
Minor deviations from the requirements may be accepted if indicated in the application.
The John Farrant Prizes were instigated to honour the name of John Farrant and his contribution to the establishment of a thriving electron microscopy community in Australia. The Prizes are funded by a generous gift from Mrs Patricia Farrant.
The John Farrant Prizes are awarded for scientifically significant student presentations given at the biennial conferences of the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society Inc. At ACMM-22, two Prizes, comprising a certificate and $1000, will be available. One can be awarded for research in the Biological or Medical Sciences and one can be awarded for research in the Physical Sciences. A panel of national and international microscopists present at the ACMM-22 will judge the suitability of presentations for award of the Prizes.
To be eligible, the presenting students must be financial members of the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society Inc.
The recipient will be required to
