Digital Micrograph Scripting Workshop
D. R. G. Mitchell

Digital Micrograph (DM) is the software front end to Gatan Inc.'s range of cameras, energy filters and energy loss spectrometers. As such it is very widely used in TEM laboratories world-wide. The built-in scripting ability of DM enables users to create scripts which carry out tasks ranging from simple image manipulations through to complex spectral acquisition routines involving energy filter control. Scripting is one of DM's greatest strengths, and perhaps its least exploited. With some scripting know-how, DM becomes infinitely flexible, allowing microscopists to tailor their microscopy software environment to meet their specific experimental needs. This half day workshop will give a basic introduction to scripting. It will include demonstrations of script creation and installation, and an exploration of some of the more commonly used scripting commands and their implementation. Scripting resources and tools which help with script development will also be explained. This will be a hands-on workshop, where participants will develop their own scripts and experiment with them. This workshop should be useful to anyone who uses DM on a regular basis, and will hopefully act as a springboard to get participants started with developing their DM scripting skills. No previous programming experience is necessary.
